Sound of Music

Well you wouldn't go to Memphis without going to Graceland so you certainly wouldn't want to experience Salzburg, Austria without going on the Sound of Music Tour.

You do catch yourself humming: "Doe .......a deer........a female deer"   as you travel to the different sites where the famous production was filmed in 1964.

The real story of Maria is quite fascinating.........she ended up her life in Stowe, Vermont.

Hollywood took a lot of liberty with her life story but it's sure fun to visit all the film locations in this beauty countryside.

Switzerland......what a beautiful country........we enjoyed some fantastic moments in nature and had the opportunity to meet some wonderful people.  Heidi didn't have it so bad !!!!!!!!! Bern, Switzerland

We had the opportunity to visit Bern, Switzerland with our friend Noa who lived in Des Moines for 20 years but returned to her home country of Switzerland.

It was fun to see the capitol of Switzerland.........a community about the size of Des Moines.

In Bern we visited the home of Albert Einstein who spent quite abit of time in Switzerland.  It was at his Bern home in 1905 that he put together his Theory on Relativity............which was one of his major accomplishments that led to the winning of the Nobel Prize in 1921.

Albert died at the age of 76 in the US while at Princeton.  He was born in Ulm, Germany  but when he was visiting the US in 1933  Hitler's forces were starting to take over so he never did return to his home country.

Einstein was very instrumental in convincing Franklin Roosevelt that the US should begin work on the possibility of an Atomic Bomb..........which resulted in the launch of the Manhattan Project.........and the rest is history.........sad........but history.

Swiss National Day- August 1st

What's Swiss National Day August 1st without a parade , fireworks and a wonderful barbecue !!!!!!!!

We had some friends invite us over for a traditional swiss barbecue........the food and company were great.

We caught the 3:00 PM parade down the streets of Interlaken......it was the whole package........bands, swiss cows, horses, antique fire trucks, swiss horn blowers and YES there were John Deere tractors.

It was really a fun day with the evening skies over the mountain lake filled with a wonderful display of fireworks. 

All very magical !!!!!!!!

Our very first RAIN DAY after being out and about for 7 weeks.......feels good to let go of activity and just catch up on the simple things..........groceries, cleaning, e-mail, laundry, meditation and yoga.
